The Historic Angle of the BBNCP
Federal and State regulations for infrastructure projects often require completion of Cultural Resources studies to identify, evaluate, and mitigate project effects on historic properties. The reconstruction of the massive Bayonne Bridge highlights the importance of early planning and coordination with various federal and state agencies, consultation with historic preservation groups for successful project completion, and developing options to minimize or mitigate project impacts. The project highlighted new information gleaned from programmatic-level efforts and the ways mitigation can be incorporated into project undertakings. It also provided an opportunity to highlight the historic and engineering significance of a vitally important bridge. The presentation will:
It will demonstrate how these and other extensive mitigation stipulations developed for the project’s programmatic agreement can be expected for your other projects when planning and administering large, National Register-listed (or eligible) bridge and roadway reconstruction and replacement projects.
