The New Jersey Department of Transportation is proposing to construct a new two-lane roadway, with shoulders, on a new alignment from St. Paul’s Avenue northward to Secaucus Road (County Route 678) in the City of Jersey City, Hudson County. The proposed roadway, currently designated as Route 1&9T/New Road, is one component of the Portway Phase I Corridor Program, which consists of a series of infrastructure improvement projects intended to strengthen freight movement to and from warehousing, storage areas and railroad facilities at Port Elizabeth and Port Newark.
The proposed New Road will be two miles in length and divided into three separate construction contracts. Contract 1 was awarded in June 2019 with a construction value of $70 million dollars.
